Punjab’s Directorate of Drugs Control has issued a public alert warning consumers not to use a counterfeit batch of the antibiotic Azomax 250mg and has directed pharmacies and medical stores to immediately stop its sale and distribution.
According to the health authorities, Batch No. H5332, bearing an expiry date of July 2027, has been identified as counterfeit during an operation against fake medicines.
The directorate said the counterfeit product carries the name of AGP Limited, but the pharmaceutical company has confirmed that the batch is not part of its genuine manufactured products.
Pharmacies, medical stores, distributors and other healthcare facilities have been instructed to immediately remove the affected batch from circulation, isolate any existing stock and notify the relevant drug inspector.
The Directorate of Drugs Control has also advised the public not to use the identified batch and to purchase medicines only from authorised pharmacies and licensed medical stores.
Authorities further urged healthcare professionals and consumers to promptly report any suspected adverse drug reactions linked to the counterfeit batch to the Punjab Pharmacovigilance Centre to facilitate appropriate regulatory action.
