ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has concluded a one-day visit to Iran as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to help end the US-Iran conflict, facilitate a ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visit was aimed at helping break the diplomatic deadlock, reduce tensions and create conditions for lasting peace and stability in the region.
During the visit, Field Marshal Munir held meetings with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme Leader’s representative to the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
The discussions focused on measures to prevent further escalation, facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and work towards an immediate resolution of the conflict.
The two sides also discussed avenues for promoting regional peace and resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiations.
According to ISPR, the Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and sincere efforts aimed at facilitating negotiations, reducing tensions and finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Upon his arrival in Iran, Field Marshal Munir was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and other senior civil and military officials.
