PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has restrained the collection of taxes and surcharges included in an electricity bill without providing details, while hearing a petition challenging various charges imposed on consumers.
The court also issued a written order regarding the previous hearing and clubbed several petitions of a similar nature, issuing notices to the relevant parties.
According to the petitioner’s counsel, the petitioner regularly pays electricity bills, but additional taxes were included in his August bill without any explanation.
The petitioner told the court that the relevant authorities asked him to decode the barcode printed on the bill. After decoding it, he allegedly found that additional taxes and surcharges had been imposed, which had not previously appeared on his electricity bills.
The petitioner has challenged the inclusion of the additional charges, seeking details and clarification from the relevant authorities.
The Peshawar High Court adjourned further proceedings until September 2.
