A large-scale crackdown has been decided against government officers and employees involved in illegal acquisition of Zakat funds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A recent audit report has revealed that 317 government employees and officers received Zakat funds contrary to rules and regulations.

‎According to the report, the individuals identified include two senior officers of Grade 17 and 315 employees from Grade 1 to 16. The investigation has revealed that Rs 30,000 each was issued to both the Grade 17 officers, while Rs 12,000 each was issued to other employees.

‎Sources say that the provincial government, taking a tough stance, has approved issuing immediate notices to all the concerned employees in the first phase. In the next phase, the amount taken from these employees will be recovered through deduction from their monthly salaries.

‎The audit report has exposed the negligence and alleged irregularities of not only those who received the funds but also some members of the distributing Zakat committees. The report also recommends disciplinary action against these members to prevent such breaches of national trust in the future.
