After the incidents of roads melting during extreme heat in the UK and other countries of Europe, the question often arises in minds as to why roads are not affected in the same way when the heat often exceeds 45 degrees Celsius in South Asia.
According to the opinion of experts included in the international media report, the reason for the melting of roads in Europe is not the construction quality but the road construction materials used according to the weather of European and Asian countries.
Roads in Britain are mostly built keeping in mind the harsh winter, snowfall, and frequent freezing and thawing weather, so relatively soft tar is used there to protect the roads from cracks in the cold; however, at temperatures of 40 degrees or more, this material softens and starts to deteriorate under the pressure of heavy traffic.
In contrast, roads in Asian countries are built keeping in mind the intense heat, strong sun, and continuous heavy traffic. In Asian countries, harder tar and materials containing large stones are used, which help the roads maintain their strength even in high temperatures.
Experts said that the difference between the roads of both Europe and Asia is not a result of the construction quality, but the strategy adopted according to the climatic requirements.
