SYDNEY: Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has described his side’s historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in the first Test as the biggest win in the team’s history across any format.
The Bangladesh team shocked the top ranked Australia to gain an upper hand in the two-match Test series held in Darwin with a magnificent performance in the full strength Australian team.
Addressing the post-match press conference, Shanto claimed that the result was a great feat for Bangladeshi cricket and appreciated their hard work.
“I am extremely happy and proud,” Shanto said while expressing his happiness regarding their victory, and further added that they will try hard to get bigger achievements in future as well.
It is worth mentioning here that the victory of Bangladesh was even more special due to their less experience of playing Test cricket in Australia. This was only the third Test match played by the Bangladeshi team in Australia.
Moreover, Shanto appreciated the development in the fast bowling department of his team, as it is one of the biggest developments in the history of Test cricket of Bangladesh.
He added that five or six years ago, there were fewer fast bowlers who showed keenness for Test matches because there was a lack of opportunities for Bangladesh in Test matches. But lately, over the course of last two to three years, there have been more Test matches for Bangladesh, making players take interest in this format of the game.
According to Shanto, experienced Bangladeshi players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque have also made a huge contribution to motivate younger players for Test cricket.
Hasan Mahmud has been named as the Player of the Match for his performance in the match where he took nine wickets, including six in Australia’s first innings.
Now, Bangladesh will look forward to making the best of the victory as they try to win the two-match series against Australia.
