PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has setup a provincial level ‘Paigham-e-Aman Committee’ to promote peace, tolerance and harmony among different communities and schools of thought.
According to an official notification issued here on Sunday, the committee was formed with the approval of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, with Maulana Muhammad Tayyib Quraishi appointed as its coordinator.
The 12-member committee includes representatives from different sects and minority communities, reflecting an effort to bring diverse voices together on a common platform. The committee will work to promote the national narrative in a way that takes into account the local and regional situation in KP.
It will also encourage dialogue among different schools of thought and support efforts to build greater understanding and tolerance. As part of its mandate, the committee will organise Paigham-e-Aman activities across the province, including programmes aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and discouraging intolerance and division.
The initiative comes as KP continues to face social and security challenges, making efforts to strengthen dialogue and community cooperation an important part of maintaining peace. Bringing religious scholars and minority representatives together could also help create a broader consensus around messages of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
The committee is expected to coordinate with relevant provincial departments and community stakeholders to carry out its activities and promote the message of peace at the grassroots level. The provincial government has also emphasised the importance of involving different segments of society in efforts to build a peaceful environment and strengthen social harmony across KP.
