RIYADH: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have agreed to immediately implement their collective defence commitments under the Makkah Alliance for Defense, according to a joint statement issued after an emergency meeting of the alliance’s Strategic-Political and Defense Committee in Riyadh on October 5.
The joint statement said the committee decided to take necessary measures to provide the agreed military forces and capabilities and ensure their rapid deployment in Saudi Arabia in accordance with approved arrangements and the national laws of the three countries.
The meeting was convened to discuss security developments and threats facing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
As part of the institutional development of the alliance, the committee also appointed Pakistan’s retired Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood as its first Secretary-General for a three-year term. The three parties welcomed his appointment and expressed confidence in his contribution to advancing the alliance’s objectives.
The joint statement said the three countries strongly condemned the attempted targeting of Makkah and Madinah, as well as continuing attacks against cities and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
The parties reaffirmed their unequivocal rejection of any attack or threat against Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity.
Pakistan and Türkiye also commended the vigilance and readiness of the Saudi Armed Forces and praised their professionalism and capabilities in countering threats and attacks against the Kingdom.
The committee reviewed the outcomes of political and military consultations held ahead of the meeting and approved the recommendations presented to it, according to the statement.
It said the Makkah Alliance for Defense represented a firm commitment to collective defence and a unified position in confronting threats.
The three countries further affirmed that the security of each member was an integral part of their collective security, saying that implementing the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defense would strengthen deterrence and demonstrate their unity and determination to defend their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
