ISLAMABAD: WhatsApp is testing a redesigned media viewer for Android that will enable users to respond to photos and videos without leaving full-screen mode, as the messaging platform continues to enhance the app’s user experience.
The feature, currently available to a limited group of Android beta testers, was first reported by feature tracker WABetaInfo. It introduces a new layout that allows users to interact with shared media more quickly and conveniently.
Under the updated interface, a reply bar appears directly below photos and videos, allowing users to send instant reactions using preset emojis. Selecting the emoji icon opens the complete library of reactions, while a dedicated “+” button provides access to the full emoji keyboard.
The redesigned media viewer also adds a built-in message field, enabling users to send text messages, photos, videos, voice notes and other content without exiting the media screen.
The enhancement builds on WhatsApp’s earlier introduction of media reactions and replies, making those tools more accessible by integrating them directly into the viewing interface.
Meta-owned WhatsApp has not announced a timeline for the wider release of the feature, which remains under testing through the Android beta programme.
