WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has instructed American negotiators not to rush into a deal with Iran, saying that “time is on our side” as talks continue between the two countries.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said ongoing negotiations with Iran were progressing in a “professional and constructive” manner, but emphasized that there was no need for haste in finalizing an agreement.

The US president also announced that restrictions and blockade measures related to the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place until a final agreement is reached, verified, and formally signed.

Trump criticized the previous Iran nuclear agreement negotiated during former President Barack Obama’s administration, calling it one of the “worst deals” made by the United States and alleging that it gave Iran a path toward developing nuclear weapons.

He said the current negotiations under his administration were fundamentally different and warned that there was “no room for mistakes” in the process. According to Trump, both sides should take the necessary time to ensure the agreement is properly finalized.

US president further claimed that relations between Washington and Tehran were becoming “more professional and constructive than ever before,” while reiterating that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

Referring to the Abraham Accords, Trump thanked Middle Eastern countries for their support and suggested that Iran could potentially join the regional normalization framework in the future.

Trump claims US–Iran peace deal nears completion

Earlier, US President Donald Trump has claimed that a major peace-related agreement involving the United States, Iran, and several regional countries has entered its final stage.

In a statement issued from the Oval Office at the White House, President Trump said he held detailed discussions with multiple regional leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, among others.

According to Trump, the talks focused on various aspects of a memorandum of understanding related to peace between the Islamic Republic of Iran and regional stakeholders. He said that a broad consensus has already been reached among the United States, Iran, and other concerned parties, with only a few points still under final consultation.

The US president also said he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the conversation as positive.

Trump added that the remaining technical details of the proposed agreement are expected to be finalized soon, after which an official announcement will be made. He further claimed that under the proposed framework, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened.

Neither Iranian nor several regional governments have independently confirmed the details of the claimed agreement at the time of publication.
