PESHAWAR: A protest by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police personnel against the sudden transfer of traffic police personnel has disrupted police duties and traffic management in several areas.
The Police Aman Committee and affected personnel strongly reacted to the transfers to other districts. The Committee appealed to personnel to record a protest at police lines and directed them to boycott duties. As a result, police operations and the traffic system began to be affected.
According to orders issued by the AIG Establishment at the Central Police Office Peshawar, immediate transfer orders were issued for 7 personnel. Head Constable Nisar Ali was transferred from Police Lines Lower Dir to PTS Swat. Constable Ghulam Abbas Khan was moved from Elite Force Peshawar to District Haripur, while Constable Muhammad Arif was transferred from Elite Force Peshawar to District Dera Ismail Khan.
Constable Shafiqullah was transferred from Investigation Bannu to District Swat. Constable Muhammad Atif Khan was moved from Elite Force Bannu to District Upper Chitral. Constable Samiullah was transferred from Lakki Marwat to CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peshawar, and Constable Khalid Rehman was transferred from District Traffic Mobile Lakki Marwat to District Shangla.
Police personnel say the sudden transfers to far-off districts are creating serious difficulties for members of the Police Aman Committee, which led them to stage a protest. Due to the duty boycott, police security at several key government and sensitive locations was also affected.
The absence of traffic police reportedly disrupted traffic flow on major highways. Increased traffic pressure at some points caused severe problems for citizens, with even short trips taking much longer than usual. The protesting personnel have demanded a review of the recent transfer orders and that their concerns be addressed.
They warned that they will consider expanding the scope of the protest if their demands are not met. Police officials have not yet issued any detailed official statement regarding the duty boycott and protest by the personnel.
