WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has praised the civilian and military leadership of Pakistan, praising Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in an interview with Fox News, while also claiming that the situation with Iran has almost been resolved.

In the remarks that were aired by the US network, Trump stated that the hostility between Iran and other countries was “almost over” and believed that the situation was well within his control. He defended his policy on Iran, emphasizing that strong measures needed to be adopted to make sure that the country does not develop nuclear arms.

“If I had not taken these initiatives, Iran could have possessed nuclear weapons, and the entire balance of power could have been shifted,” Trump was quoted as saying, adding that there were several nations in the Gulf region who were supporting him on this point.

On being asked about Pakistan, he said that Pakistan played an important role in the geopolitics of the region, stating that “Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are very good men.”

He further stated that Pakistan has maintained its friendly relationship with Iran and has tried to bridge the gap between the two nations through dialogues. Such a step by Pakistan, as mentioned by Mr. Trump, is vital in ensuring a stable region.

Furthermore, he also appreciated the people of Pakistan because of their intense desire for peace. He said that Pakistan is a rising nation that plays an important role in contributing to regional stability.

Donald Trump hints to visit Islamabad, if deal with Iran succeeds

Earlier, United States President Donald Trump announced that if deal with Iran on its nuclear program and regional security has been finalized, and he will personally visit Islamabad.

He said that US Vice President JD Vance is also playing a key role in these negotiations. The US’s main goal is to keep Iran away from nuclear weapons, while Iran is demanding the lifting of international sanctions.
