QUETTA: Significant progress has been made in talks between the Balochistan government’s negotiating committee and the sit-in committee representing the families of those killed in the recent Ziarat tragedy, with both sides reaching consensus on a draft agreement, official sources said on Friday.
According to sources, the first round of negotiations between the government delegation, the protest committee, and the victims’ families concluded successfully after both sides agreed on the contents of a draft agreement.
The sources said the agreement is expected to be formally signed by representatives of both parties after Friday prayers. Following the signing, the draft will be presented to the participants of the sit-in for their approval.
Under the proposed agreement, the bodies of the deceased will be transported to their respective hometowns for burial once the accord is finalized. Government sources also dismissed reports circulating on social media regarding the negotiations, describing them as baseless and inaccurate. They urged the public to rely only on official statements for updates on the talks.
Officials said dialogue between the government’s negotiating team and the sit-in committee would continue to ensure the implementation of the agreed points and to address any remaining issues through consultation.
The sit-in, staged by the victims’ families and supporters, has continued in Quetta as they press the government for justice and the acceptance of their demands following the deadly incident in Ziarat.
Authorities expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for an end to the protest and allow the victims to be laid to rest with dignity in their native areas.
