Green tea is widely consumed as a health-promoting beverage and contains antioxidants such as catechins, which have been studied for their potential health benefits.
Research suggests that its caffeine and catechins may have a modest effect on metabolism and energy use, but green tea alone should not be considered a quick or significant weight-loss solution. A balanced diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep and overall calorie intake remain more important.
Green tea has also been associated with certain indicators of heart health and may provide a mild boost in alertness and concentration. However, it should not replace prescribed medication for heart disease or high cholesterol.
Experts generally consider two to three cups a day a moderate amount, although individual tolerance to caffeine varies. Excessive consumption may cause anxiety, stomach discomfort or sleep disturbances, particularly in sensitive individuals.
People with iron deficiency, stomach problems or caffeine sensitivity are advised to consult a doctor or nutritionist before making high amounts of green tea part of their daily routine.
