The Director General of Passport and Immigration has started to give the final touch to reforms in the passport system to completely shift the issuance of passports to e-passports.
This decision was made in a special meeting held at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters under the chairmanship of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. During the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that a complete transition to e-passports will make it possible to eliminate fraud and forgery in the passport system.
It was also decided in the meeting that citizens availing premium services will have to pay a fee according to the cost of the passport. According to sources, the initial work for home delivery of passports abroad and within the country has been completed, while the process of providing passports to citizens at their doorsteps will start soon.
It was further informed that a cashless system will be implemented in passport offices from July 1. The meeting also decided to move online passport applications to the Pak ID platform.
