ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has accelerated work on the development of a mobile application aimed at digitizing passport services, with an online passport renewal facility expected to be launched in the near future.
The progress was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa, which focused on ongoing initiatives to modernise and digitise passport-related services.
The meeting, held at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters, was also attended by officials from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Participants discussed plans to establish passport counters at NADRA centers across the country to improve public access to services.
Randhawa directed officials to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing projects and emphasised the importance of enhancing service delivery through the use of modern technology.
During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that development work on the passport mobile application had been expedited.
Once launched, the app will enable citizens to renew their passports online and submit applications through a streamlined digital process.
The meeting also reviewed proposals to expand the passport home delivery service, allowing citizens to receive their passports at their doorstep without visiting passport offices.
Officials said the adoption of modern technology would usher in a new era of transparency and convenience in passport services.
They added that the establishment of passport counters at NADRA centers would enable citizens to access multiple government services under one roof, significantly improving efficiency and public convenience.
