PESHAWAR: The intense heat wave will continue in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today, while the northern hilly areas are likely to become cloudy after noon with local rain.
According to the Meteorological Department, the mercury is likely to reach 39 degrees Celsius in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, DI Khan, and Bannu; however, the perceived temperature may reach 43 to 44 degrees due to humidity.
The department has declared the UV index to be 11, extremely dangerous, and has directed citizens to avoid direct sunlight from 11 am to 4 pm, keep their heads covered, and consume more water and beverages. On the other hand, the weather will remain relatively pleasant in the upper areas of Swat, Dir, Chitral, and Kohistan.
The minimum temperature in Dir and Matta will be 15 to 17 degrees, while the maximum will be 26 to 29 degrees Celsius. The weather will remain clear in the morning hours; however, clouds will be dense after noon, and light rain with thunder may also occur.
Natasar, which is located at an altitude of 2037 meters above sea level, will have a night temperature of 15 degrees and a day temperature of 26 degrees. According to experts, clouds and rain are likely to form in the afternoon, while the winds will remain light. The weather will also remain partly cloudy in nearby areas of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, and light rain is expected in the mountains.
The Meteorological Department has advised tourists to check the road conditions with the local administration before heading to Naran, Kaghan, Kalam, and to avoid camping near mountain streams, as there is a risk of flash flooding due to afternoon rain.
