PESHAWAR: International demand for honey produced in various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is increasing, with exports to Gulf countries and other international markets reportedly reaching new highs.
It is reported by traders and industry experts that honey of various kinds is being exported to foreign countries as a result of growing worldwide demand of natural goods and food items.
The use of honey, which is considered a natural food item with many health benefits, as a dietary supplement and traditional medicine, has been popular since centuries. According to experts, honey is made up of natural sugar, vitamin and other healthy nutrients.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are among the regions of Pakistan known for their quality honey, but honey from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is gradually establishing its name in international markets for its quality and different varieties.
In local markets, honey is available from Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Swat and Chitral districts. Different types of honey, including berry, clover, citrus, mustard and others are found in local markets, where honey is available in varying prices.
The Chamakni area in Peshawar is considered one of the largest honey trading hubs in the province, where both local and imported varieties are available. Traders say even premium products, including Yemeni honey, are sold in the market at significantly higher prices, reflecting growing consumer demand and international trade activity.
