Suzuki has officially launched its first electric kei car – the e Sky – in Japan ahead of an expected UK launch in 2027. Tiny rival to the Renault Twingo and Honda Super-N is set to reach the UK as part of Suzuki’s EV expansion.
The E Sky is scheduled to go on sale in its native Japan this autumn and is expected to reach the UK next year with a sub-£20,000 price tag to rival the Honda Super-N and Renault Twingo. The tiny EV has been designed to meet Japan’s strict regulations on size and performance and sticks very closely to the concept car revealed at last year’s Tokyo Mobility Show.
It measures up at just 3,395mm by 1,475mm – 394mm shorter and 245mm narrower than the Twingo. However, its relatively tall boxy bodywork should allow an impressive amount of interior space for its footprint. Suzuki says it will be capable of carrying four passengers.
Full technical details are still under wraps, but under kei car rules, the Suzuki e Sky will be restricted to 63bhp – likely to be delivered by a front-mounted motor.Japanese media has reported that the e Sky will feature a 26kWh battery capable of up to 193 miles from a single charge. That puts it ahead of the Twingo, which manages up to 163 miles, and the Super-N, which tops out at 128 miles. DC charging is expected to be capped at 50kW, but with such a small battery, a 10-80% top-up should take less than 30 minutes.
While the e Sky meets the full kei car requirements for Japan, it is not clear whether Suzuki might modify it for other markets, as rivals have done. For the UK-spec Super-N, Honda upgraded its Japanese market N-One e with a more powerful 93bhp motor and sporty body kit which pushes its dimensions beyond the Japanese regulations.
Precise details of a UK launch for the Suzuki e Sky are still to be confirmed, but it is expected to arrive in 2027 and be priced under £20,000 to compete in the growing electric A-segment.The e Sky is one of three new EVs Suzuki plans to launch in Europe by 2030 as it tries to make up for lost ground. Its only current EV is the e Vitara, which launched in 2025 and is twinned with the Toyota Urban Cruiser.
