ISLAMABAD: The first meeting of the opposition grand alliance supported Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s recent statement and vowed that peaceful constitutional struggle is the only option to release incarcerated PTI founding chairman Imran Khan.
“We do not want to get the PTI founder released through any unconstitutional means” PTI leaders said. If this alliance is for the supremacy of the Constitution in the country, then we will support it. We cannot be part of any alliance to blackmail someone or to gain personal interests.
If we have to restore the supremacy of the Constitution, we will not step back from struggle.”Sources said Maulana Fazlur Rehman told the participants: “After Imran Khan went to jail, I had stopped workers from talking about him. We want the constitutional release of all prisoners.
The opposition will have to come forward to get the country out of its current weak situation.”However, sources also revealed internal rifts within PTI. Some PTI members are reportedly against this alliance.
PTI members reportedly told Maulana Fazlur Rehman: “Your role in the past was not right. But we want to forget the past and move forward.
A number of parliamentarians from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab do not want to move forward with Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Some parliamentarians are also holding Maulana Fazlur Rehman responsible for the PTI founder’s imprisonment.
