LAHORE: Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s involvement in international politics, asserting that through the mediation process of the country, a possible World War III was being prevented.
While addressing the crowd gathered for the occasion of paying tribute to famous poet Syed Salman Gilani, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said, “To fight with the rulers does not mean breaking the face of the motherland. Pakistan’s mediation has saved the world from the Third World War. In the government’s request, we delayed the protest against the inflation not because it was requested, but we saw the larger picture.”
Moreover, he criticized the US president, Donald Trump for his inconsistent approach. “On the one hand, he is negotiating, and on the other hand, he is threatening. His language is worse than a neighbourhood bully. He should first learn the etiquette of negotiation,” Rehman said.
Furthermore, he emphasized the need to change the policy of Pakistan, advising policymakers to focus on the country’s economy. “What will be the future of our economy? Reform the governance structure and its foundations,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Saad Rafique of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) commented on international affairs, especially concerning the changing dynamics in the Middle East region. “Abraham accord is over and no state will accept Israel anymore. The killing in Gaza has become a mark of the new world order,” he proclaimed.
Additionally, he attacked the prevailing narrative regarding the Pulwama case, highlighting the military power of Pakistan. “The responsibility of the Pulwama case was unfairly blamed on Pakistan. Our soldiers have defeated an army five times bigger than ours. Once the Pakistani army stood up, then the whole world listened,” Rafique claimed.
In his other address, Saad Rafique appreciated the role of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in overcoming the economic situation in Pakistan. “The Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif stopped the default of Pakistan. Thanks to God, we did not go into default. India has made a grave mistake when they attacked us and our air force destroyed their vanity. Now, Pakistan is needed more than before,” he stated.
