PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to compile a “negative list” of corrupt and underperforming government officials as part of efforts to strengthen good governance and improve accountability across public institutions.
The decision was taken during the weekly Good Governance Roadmap review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Syed Shahab Ali Shah, which was attended by administrative secretaries, deputy commissioners and heads of various government departments.
During the meeting, the progress in respect of good governance agenda in the province was reviewed and some measures to improve the performance and accountability of the provincial administration were discussed.
Addressing the participants, the Chief Secretary stated that while having been assigned the task of providing services to the people, some aspects of government machinery have failed in this regard.
He directed all administrative heads to identify officers and employees with records of poor performance or misconduct and submit a detailed list to the Chief Secretary’s Office within one week.
Sources said that a special team has also been formed in the office of the Chief Secretary to monitor the exercise and make sure that everything is done transparently and purely on merit.
This is just one of the many steps taken by the provincial government to streamline the functioning of public services.
