ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across Pakistan are likely to face higher bills from September 2026 after a relief of Rs1.99 per unit expires this month.

Under the quarterly adjustment for January to March 2026, consumers were receiving relief worth more than Rs67.17 billion. The relief is set to expire in August, paving the way for a possible increase in electricity tariffs from September.

Meanwhile, power distribution companies have approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking approval to recover more than Rs23 billion from consumers under the quarterly adjustment for April to June 2026.

If approved, the new quarterly adjustment could place an additional burden of around Rs1 per unit on consumers. However, the final amount will be determined after NEPRA completes its hearing and review process.

Separately, NEPRA has approved a 75-paisa-per-unit increase under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for June 2026. The additional amount will be recovered from consumers of all distribution companies, including K-Electric, through their August electricity bills.

The 75-paisa increase will not apply to lifeline consumers, electric vehicle charging stations or prepaid electricity consumers.
