ISLAMABAD: The Afghan Embassy in Islamabad has expressed deep concern over a decision by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) concerning the removal of Afghan medical students currently studying in Pakistan.
In a statement, the Afghan Embassy said the decision could disrupt the academic progress and future of Afghan students who began their studies in Pakistan through legal and established procedures.
The embassy said many of these students are now at an advanced stage of their respective medical programmes after investing years of time, effort and significant financial and personal resources in their education.
The Afghan diplomatic mission urged Pakistani education authorities, as well as relevant international medical, academic, humanitarian and professional organisations, to give due attention to safeguarding the educational rights of the affected Afghan students.
It called for the students to be allowed to complete their education without disruption or unnecessary obstacles.
The Afghan Embassy further emphasised that important areas such as knowledge, education and human relations should remain protected from political disputes.
According to the embassy, political differences or developments between the two countries should not result in the loss or disruption of educational and academic opportunities for students.
The statement comes amid concerns over the future of Afghan medical students enrolled in Pakistani institutions following the PMDC’s decision.
