LONDON: Australia clinched a record eighth Women’s T20 World Cup title after defeating England in the final match at Lord’s on Sunday.
Batting first, England set a strong total of 150 for four in 20 overs with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt being the standout batsman for England as she remained not out on 58 runs. Alice Capsey provided valuable support by making quickfire 44 off just 28 balls.
The bowling attack of Australia was able to restrict England and prevent them from posting a bigger score, with Alana King, Kim Garth, Sophie Molineux, and Annabel Sutherland all taking one wicket each in the innings.
Chasing 151 to win the title, the batting lineup of Australia showed calmness and maturity and was finally able to chase down the target in order to lift the trophy.
This is the second final of the tournament between the two teams and both of them came into the final unbeaten in the tournament, increasing hopes of having a very intense match between the two best sides of women’s cricket.
With this win, Australia extended their record to the number of titles that they have won in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
