The United States has launched a series of air strikes against Iran, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said, describing the operation as a response to what it called Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in international waters.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out after Iran allegedly targeted three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, endangering the lives of civilian crews.

The US military said the attacks on the vessels were “unprovoked” and “dangerous”, and described them as a clear violation of the ceasefire.
US officials said the military action is intended to impose significant costs on Iran for what Washington described as attacks that threatened the safety and security of international commercial shipping.
Iran had not immediately commented on the US claims at the time of reporting.
