KATHMANDU: A sudden and devastating flood and landslide along the Nepal-Tibet border has caused widespread destruction, killing at least 95 people and leaving hundreds of tourists missing, according to the Nepal Tourism Board.

Among those reported missing are more than 100 Indian nationals and 12 British citizens, according to the information cited in the report.

CCTV footage released by China of the scene showed the impact of the flood as a massive flow of water and dirt fell on buildings in the border area.

Footage from Nepal shows how people were evacuating to safe locations due to the sudden flow of floodwaters in the area.

The foreign minister from Nepal has raised fears of the deadly flood being caused by an earthquake followed by an ice or landslide event.

While the authorities from both sides of the border are investigating the real cause of the disaster, there are already reports that the sudden flow of water and debris is posing challenges in the rescue efforts.

The Chinese president has instructed an intensification of rescue operations on the Tibetan side of the incident, calling on all efforts to be made available for the affected individuals.
