BUNER: Three women drowned and one was rescued alive after they were swept away by floodwaters in the Barando River in Buner on Monday.

According to officials, the incident occurred at the Kulyari, Jalala Bridge area in Buner. Heavy rainfall since morning caused a sudden rise in the water flow of the Barando River.

The women were trying to cross the river when they were swept away. Rescue 1122 teams, along with volunteers and Humanity Foundation, launched a search operation and recovered the bodies of the two women.

The rescued woman was given first aid at the site and was later shifted from RHDC Dewan Baba to District Headquarters Hospital Daggar for further treatment.

The bodies of the two deceased women were also moved to the hospital for legal formalities. Authorities have urged people to avoid crossing rivers and streams during rainfall due to the risk of flash floods.
