PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an advisory that there will be heavy rainfall in some districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Tuesday night to August 20, which may cause urban flooding in the provincial cities, as well as landslides in hilly areas.

According to the weather department, heavy rain may result in urban flooding in low-lying areas of Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar and Nowshera. The weather department also issued a warning about the possibility of landslides in hilly areas of the province during the wet spell.

Strong winds, rains and thunderstorms are likely in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand and Mansehra.

Similarly, the weather in Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Hangu, Orakzai, Karak, Kurram and Kohat will also be of similar nature with isolated areas receiving heavy rainfall.

The weather department said the rest of the province would continue to be hot and humid during the period.

However, the highest temperature recorded in the province on Monday was 41 degrees Celsius in Dera Ismail Khan, 40 degrees in Bannu, 38 degrees in Chitral and 24 degrees in Malam Jabba.

Rainfall recorded in Kakol was 16 mm, Malam Jabba 4 mm and Balakot 3 mm during the last 24 hours.
