MIRANSHAH: Security forces have carried out a major intelligence-based operation in the Palangzai area of North Waziristan, dealing a significant blow to militant networks operating in the region.
According to security sources, the operation resulted in the killing of 45 militants, including a high-value commander identified as Khalid Raza, also known as Salim. Authorities had placed a bounty of Rs4 million on the militant leader due to his alleged involvement in terrorist activities.
Officials said the operation was launched as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts in the area. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the militants, including a 12.7mm rifle, 14 submachine guns, and a rocket launcher.
The operation began on June 7, with security forces initially reporting the killing of 27 militants. The total number of militants killed has since risen to 45 as operations continued in the area.
Security sources stated that clearance operations remain underway to eliminate any remaining militants and ensure the area is fully secured.
The latest operation is being viewed as a major setback for militant networks active in North Waziristan, a region that has witnessed numerous counterterrorism campaigns in recent years.
Security forces reiterated their commitment to continuing operations against militant groups and maintaining peace and stability across the country.
