KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert regarding the sighting of the crescent moon for Muharram 1448 Hijri.
As per PMD, the crescent moon will appear only on June 15, 2026, at 7:54 am; thus, its sighting would remain unlikely for the same day throughout the country.
Weather reports suggest mostly clear or partly cloudy weather conditions for June 15. The moon will set at 7:59 pm in Punjab, at 8:05 pm in Sindh, while in Azad Kashmir, it will disappear from the sky at 8:07 pm. Likewise, in Gilgit-Baltistan, it will set at 8:12 pm, whereas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the moon will disappear at 8:23 pm. Finally, in Balochistan the moon will set at 8:34 pm.
Earlier in the week, Saudi Arabia announced the sighting of the crescent moon of Muharram along with the changeover of the covering of Kaaba to indicate the arrival of a new year.
