PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information, Shafi Jan said that all the relevant departments of the government were fully alert to avert possible rains related damages following Met Office forecast.

He said the provincial government was striving to protect the lives and property of the public. Shafi Jan said in a statement here regarding advance preparations for the expected rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following Met Office prediction about heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible glacial lake outburst floods in the upper areas of the province.

In view of the potential risks, instructions have been issued to the district administration and all relevant departments to remain on alert, continuously monitor sensitive glacial locations, and keep early warning systems active. Shafi Jan said that all relevant departments of the provincial government are fully prepared and alert to deal with any emergency situation.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is continuously monitoring the situation in KP and was fully alert. He appealed to the public, especially tourists, to take precautionary measures and said that in case of any emergency, the PDMA helpline 1700 can be contacted immediately. Shafi said that the provincial government was making every effort to protect the lives and property of the people and is utilizing all available resources in this regard.

PDMA KP releases damage report on rain-related incidents across province

Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday released the damage report of the last two days caused by heavy rains and windstorms. According to the report, 4 people died, and 16 others were injured in separate incidents across the province.

The PDMA report said that the heavy rain, coupled with windstorms, caused massive damage to the properties, and multiple casualties were reported.

It said houses and walls collapsed in various districts of Mardan, Swabi, Malakand and Shangla, where four people were killed and 16 others injured.

According to the PDMA report, the deceased include two men, one woman and one child, while the injured include one woman, 8 men and seven children.

It mentioned that district administrations and all relevant agencies have been put on alert and are in close contact with each other.

PDMA has also directed the administration of all relevant districts to provide relief to the victims as soon as possible. PDMA further said in the report that the current wave of rains and strong winds is likely to continue intermittently until May 12.
