ISLAMABAD: Intermittent wind and rain continued across various cities, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as the Meteorological Department and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) predicted further rainfall and hailstorms for several parts of the country.

Authorities have directed citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and take strict precautionary measures during these volatile weather conditions.

In the twin cities, strong winds swept through in the evening, followed by rainfall in different areas, providing relief from the heat and making the weather pleasant. The Meteorological Department has forecast continued rain from tonight through May 13. While thunderstorms are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, as well as scattered rain in the Potohar region, extreme heat is predicted to persist in the southern districts of Sindh and Balochistan.

The NDMA has warned that rain and hail are likely in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan over the next 12 to 24 hours. A spokesperson noted a significant risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) due to rapidly melting glaciers caused by rising temperatures, which could lead to flash floods and landslides in northern regions. Additionally, strong winds and potential hailstorms may damage fragile structures, solar panels, and vehicles. The NDMA continues to advise the public to exercise extreme caution and limit travel during this period.
