PESHAWAR: Dengue cases continue to rise across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 50 new infections reported during the past week, taking the provincial tally to 339, according to the Health Department.

The total number of cases has risen from 289 last weeks to 339 this week, and due to this reason, the dengue prevention and control drive has been intensified all across the province.

As per the latest health department report, extra staff has been posted at those areas where the number of cases is high to increase the surveillance and prevention activities.

In order to prevent mosquito breeding, larvae have been eradicated from 551 houses, 1,280 water sources and 247 open sources so far in the province.

The most affected city is Peshawar where there are 152 cases, Kohat comes second with 85 cases, while Bannu and Haripur each account for 19 and 17 cases respectively.

This week alone, 13 new cases have been found in Peshawar and 16 cases in Kohat, reveals the report.

Awareness campaigns about dengue have also been increased as over 87,000 dengue prevention campaigns have been conducted.

The Health Department said 254,116 female workers have also been trained to raise awareness at the household level. The workers are going door-to-door to create awareness among residents regarding the dangers of keeping water in open containers, as well as preventive methods for avoiding being bitten by mosquitoes.

The health authorities are monitoring and conducting vector control operations in affected areas, as cases of dengue fever are rising steadily in the province.
