Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has seen an increase in dengue cases, according to the latest report from the provincial health department. So far this year, there have been 636 suspected cases and 111 confirmed cases of dengue, with no reported fatalities.
In the past week alone, there were 84 new suspected cases and 22 confirmed cases. Peshawar is the most affected district, accounting for 62 of the confirmed cases. Other impacted areas include Kohat with 8 cases, Bannu with 7, and Bajaur with 6 cases.
Of the 22 newly confirmed cases reported last week, 18 were from Peshawar, and one case each was reported from Lower Dir, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.
Health officials have noted a continuous increase in suspected cases, with last week’s total of 84 being higher than in previous weeks.
To help control the spread of dengue, surveillance operations have inspected over 165,813 houses, 716,131 containers, and 16,920 outdoor locations. Anti-dengue measures were implemented at multiple sites where mosquito breeding was detected.
Additionally, the health department reported that 48,481 community awareness sessions have been conducted across the province.
However, they identified the lack of effective data sharing from private hospitals and clinics as a significant ongoing challenge in managing the outbreak.
