ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock and adjoining areas over the next one to three hours.

According to the PMD, active westerly weather systems are expected to bring a significant change in weather conditions, resulting in light to moderate rainfall across several areas, with strong winds likely at isolated locations.

The weather department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from weak structures, electricity poles, trees and open areas during the adverse weather. It also warned of possible water accumulation in low-lying areas and traffic disruptions due to heavy rainfall.

Authorities have been directed to ensure precautionary measures are in place to deal with any weather-related emergencies, while the public has been urged to stay updated on the latest weather advisories and follow safety guidelines.

Meanwhile, torrential rains have triggered flash floods in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district, causing widespread damage in several areas. Flood conditions continue to persist in Thor, where floodwaters and debris have entered residential areas, creating difficulties for local residents.

The flash floods have washed away agricultural land, crops and trees, while the main access road to Thor has been blocked at multiple locations, disrupting traffic and affecting electricity supply. Local authorities are assessing the damage and continuing relief operations in the affected areas.
