ISLAMABAD: Electricity tariffs may increase by Rs2.52 per unit for one month, potentially placing an additional financial burden of billions of rupees on consumers.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a Rs2.52 per unit increase under the monthly fuel price adjustment for July.
NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing on the CPPA’s request today.
According to the application, the cost of electricity generated from diesel stood at Rs50 per unit in July, while power produced from imported coal cost Rs54.47 per unit.
Meanwhile, the cost of electricity generated from imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) was recorded at Rs47.37 per unit during the month.
The proposed increase will be subject to NEPRA’s decision following the hearing.
