PESHAWAR: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Peshawar Region has killed five suspected militants, including a key commander of Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), during an operation near Shamshatoo Camp in Peshawar.
According to the CTD, the operation was carried out at a compound of the Kabul English Language Centre, where militants affiliated with ISIS-K were allegedly planning major terrorist attacks targeting sensitive installations, Imambargahs, churches and other important locations.
Among those killed was Imran alias Abdullah, alias Bilal, alias Abu Bakr, described by authorities as a key commander of the banned militant organisation. He was wanted by the CTD in several terrorism cases.
Authorities had announced a reward of Rs12 million for information leading to his arrest or whereabouts.
The CTD said Shahidullah, son of Miraj, was also killed during the operation, while the identities of the remaining suspects were being verified.
Security personnel recovered one SMG, four pistols, two hand grenades, five magazines, one improvised explosive device (IED) and several rounds of ammunition from the militants, according to officials.
The CTD said the suspected militants were wanted in connection with multiple bomb blasts, targeted killings and other terrorist activities.
A search and clearance operation was continuing in the area following the raid, authorities said.
