ISLAMABAD: Nadeem Afzal Chan, spokesperson for the Pakistan Peoples Party, has claimed that the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is likely to be released during the current year amid evolving political circumstances in the country.
While commenting in an interview on a private television channel, Chan asserted that the apparent peace in the political atmosphere might culminate in “greater political explosion” because of increasing economic strains, rising unemployment, and growing displeasure of citizens.
According to Chan, the freedom of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, would eventually take place in accordance with political and legal measures instead of some sort of covert plan.
“PTI’s founding father must sit together with political parties, and it shouldn’t be called a deal,” said Chan. “Political dialogue is always a part of democracy just as the Charter of Democracy was not seen as any deal.”
The politician further condemned the process of increasing role of governance by bureaucracy, which had resulted in weakening the democratic system in Pakistan. He questioned the timing of accountability measures, especially when the National Accountability Bureau took action whenever constitutional changes were being made.
Moreover, Chan voiced worry regarding the reported enforced disappearances and extrajudicial activities, stating that individuals belonging to different districts vanished and appeared later after issuing statements.
On the issue of his party’s political stance, he stated that PPP had been continuously subjected to weakening attempts for five decades yet managed to remain present in all parts of Pakistan. Moreover, he supported President Asif Ali Zardari, stating that the seasoned politician always responded positively in times of political stress.
Finally, PPP’s representative emphasized that the growing inflation rate, unemployment problem, and issues associated with agriculture would contribute to political unrest in the country.
