‎PESHAWAR: Rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds lashed several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas on Wednesday as monsoon activity continued across the region.

‎The Pakistan Meteorological Department said Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Pothohar region, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to receive rain with windstorm and thundershower during the next 12 hours.

‎Districts expected to receive rainfall include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar and Abbottabad.

‎In Peshawar, thunderstorms were recorded in the morning. The weather department forecast scattered thunderstorms through the afternoon, followed by partly cloudy conditions. Another spell of scattered thunderstorms is expected late tonight, with thunderstorms likely after midnight.

‎The PDMA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to hilly areas and to stay away from rivers and streams due to the risk of flash floods and landslides. The authority also warned of possible urban flooding in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi and Abbottabad.

‎District administrations and Rescue 1122 have been placed on high alert.

‎In Punjab, Lahore and other cities also witnessed scattered thunderstorms. Lahore recorded a maximum temperature of 34°C and a minimum of 27°C, with a 60% chance of rain during the day.
