LAHORE: MG Motors Pakistan has unveiled its latest addition to its product line-up in the form of the all-new MG HS in two exciting variants called Hybrid Plus and Super Hybrid variants. With this move, MG has taken another step forward in terms of technology and design, establishing itself as an important player in the country’s burgeoning NEV sector.

MG held the unveiling ceremony for the new car at its Lahore plant where the company unveiled two new variants of the vehicle meant to meet the changing demands of eco-conscious customers in the country.

Mr. Xiao, CEO of MG, was present on the occasion and talked enthusiastically about MG’s efforts in offering innovative products to Pakistani consumers. “Our efforts in promoting NEVs began in 2020, and now with our new models like the MG HS, we aim to increase our efforts even further,” he said. The CEO also emphasized the new design elements offered by the latest model.

The two types of hybrids, namely the Hybrid Plus and the Super Hybrid, are both designed using the most recent generation technology. The former is an old-school hybrid but with a contemporary touch. The latter is the plug-in hybrid that possesses the unique feature of driving up to 135 kilometers only using the battery.

In response to this move, a senior official of SAIC Motors said, “Pakistan remains our most important strategic market. We now see the necessity for electric mobility, fuelled by the rising popularity of solar energy use in the country.”

Through the release of these hybrid models, it is clear that the company, through its MG brand, will establish itself in the new energy vehicle sector in Pakistan.

Similarly, in 2026, the trend of electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan is growing rapidly, especially in the segment of cars priced under 60 lakh, making them more accessible to middle-class buyers.

Previously, EVs were limited to the luxury category, but now companies are introducing budget-friendly options. In this range, the MG Binguo has emerged as one of the most popular choices, offering a range of around 270 km along with modern features. Similarly, the Honri VE stands out as Pakistan’s first locally assembled electric hatchback, available between 40–50 lakh and known for its lower maintenance costs. Other options like the JMEV EV3 are gaining attention due to good range and fast charging capability, while the GUGO GIGI and Inverex XIO cater to users looking for affordable city-driving solutions.

This development marks a significant shift in Pakistan’s automotive market, as electric cars are becoming more affordable and practical for everyday use. With local assembly and the entry of international manufacturers, prices are expected to decrease further in the coming years.

Most EVs in this category offer a range between 180 to 300 km, which is sufficient for daily commuting, while their charging cost is significantly lower compared to petrol vehicles. Additionally, EVs require less maintenance since they do not rely on engine oil or complex mechanical systems. Overall, these factors indicate that Pakistan is gradually moving towards electric mobility, and the EV market is expected to expand even more in the near future.
