PESHAWAR: Tensions in Peshawar flared during a protest near the Ring Road Toll Plaza when demonstrators and police clashed, leading to violent confrontations and chaos in the area.
The protest led by PTI leader Iqbal Afridi was organized in response to the Akha Khel drone incident. The situation escalated when protesters suddenly intensified their demonstration by staging a sit-in on the road, causing the situation to spiral out of control.
According to police, the conflict escalated when protesters and law enforcement officers faced off. During the confrontation, angry demonstrators damaged a police vehicle and targeted public property, including a civilian’s car.
In an attempt to restore order, the police took action which further aggravated tensions in the area. Reports also surfaced of gunfire during the incident, spreading fear and panic among the residents.
Authorities have confirmed that additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed to restore peace and order. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, with officials working to bring the situation under control.
