ISLAMABAD: A major facility has been introduced for solar users, allowing citizens to check the status of their net metering applications through an online portal.
According to the Power Division, processing of 11,695 pending applications related to the transition from net metering to the net billing system has been completed on the directions of Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari.
Officials said a total of 16,654 applications had been pending for the transition. Of these, the Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) directly contacted 11,695 consumers through text messages and WhatsApp.
Solar users can now check the latest status of their net metering applications through the relevant online portal, enabling them to obtain updates on the progress of their applications directly.
The Power Division spokesperson has also advised consumers not to pay any fee to individuals or agents for faster processing or assistance at any stage of the application process.
According to the spokesperson, direct communication with consumers is aimed at protecting them from agents and unnecessary third-party intervention. The verification process is also intended to safeguard the rights of legitimate consumers and help prevent illegal connections.
Energy Minister Awais Leghari said the government strongly supports the promotion of solar and renewable energy. He said the government wants to establish a transparent, efficient and sustainable system rather than create obstacles to solarisation.
Officials said online monitoring of net metering applications and direct communication with consumers would help improve transparency in the system and ensure that citizens receive timely information about their applications.
