PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the establishment of a modern Rescue 1122 academy in Shah Kas area of Khyber district, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and response capabilities of emergency services in the province.

According to the spokesperson of Rescue 1122, Bilal Faizi, the academy will be constructed over an area of 300 kanals and will be built with the objective of bringing KP’s emergency response system on par with that of other countries. The estimated cost of the project amounts to 3.79 billion rupees, while its completion deadline will fall on June 30, 2028.

At the academy, Rescue 1122 teams will be given basic and advanced level training, which will include courses on different types of emergency situations. Special courses on firefighting, emergency medical services, and disaster management will also be included in the curriculum. There will be an additional swimming pool facility as well, where professional diver training will be provided.

Furthermore, the academy will be equipped with modern physical infrastructure, including sport pitches, gymnasium, and modern fitness equipment. Some other important aspects of the academy will be an auditorium, tower training structures, hostel facilities for residence, and many other modern amenities. All new recruits will go through a compulsory six months’ training period, and all the present staff will be able to attend refresher courses to improve their skills.

Faizi said that first aid, firefighting, etc., will also be taught in the academy to the students and employees from both public and private organizations. This is expected to contribute positively to improving the community’s emergency response abilities.

This project is considered to be a major breakthrough for the improvement of emergency services in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
