PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has given its approval for an extremely big development plan, which would require 173.78 billion rupees to be spent under the Peshawar Revival Plan.

According to the government sources, under the plan there would be several major developments, including the development of roads and underpasses; linking roads and underground installation of electricity supply from Pir zkori Bridge to Jamrud. Some other developments would include the purchase of funerals, the construction of Budhni Nullah, the construction of a fruit and vegetables market, and the construction of four slaughterhouses.

The amount allocated for the above-mentioned projects is as follows:

Development of Ring Road – 9.84 billion rupees

Development of Jamrud Road and University Road with Streetlights – 560 million rupees

Construction of nine underpasses – 930 million rupees

Development of artificial forest at Azakhel – 920 million rupees

Development of 34 parks in the city – 1 billion rupees

Construction of 35 roads – 19.90 billion rupees.

The cost of carrying out the Pir zkori Flyover project, involving the moving of power lines underground along with the erection of new transformers, will be 5.24 billion rupees. Other projects include allocation of 3 billion rupees for the link road between Hayatabad and Khyber Road, 9 billion rupees for building the road between Nasir Bagh and Bypass, and 2 billion rupees for establishing a theme park. In addition, there is an allocation of 175 million rupees for procuring four funeral cars, and 5.52 billion rupees will be spent on constructing Budhni Nullah.

These projects have been undertaken to solve problems of traffic congestion, create a good environment, and boost the economy through improvements in the urban setup. Instructions have been issued by the government to start work on these projects by June 30 this year, and the government has been informed about the progress in the projects at a cabinet meeting.
