The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an alert following a sudden increase in water flow caused by the melting of the Hispar-Hooper Glacier.

According to the NDMA, water levels in the river near Hispar-Hooper rose unexpectedly, prompting authorities to closely monitor the situation and issue precautionary directives.

The disaster management authority said it is fully aware of the developing situation and is continuously monitoring the affected areas to prevent any emergency situation.

NDMA has directed the local administration to ensure safety measures for residents living along riverbanks and vulnerable locations.

Residents of Gilgit district areas including Gurujaglot, Rahimabad, Nomal, Jutal, Jaglot Colony and Chilmis have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary movement near waterways.

Travellers have also been urged to adopt precautionary measures while travelling in the region.

The authority further advised citizens to use the Pak NDMA Alert App for timely updates, alerts and safety information regarding weather and disaster-related emergencies.
