ISLAMABAD: The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing equal educational opportunities to children from working-class families, announcing the immediate implementation of a plan to extend quality education to an additional 100,000 children.
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain said the initiative is being launched on the directives of the prime minister to ensure that more children from labouring families receive quality education and that no child is deprived of schooling due to financial hardship.
He stressed that education is a fundamental right of every child, not a privilege reserved for a particular segment of society.
The government, he said, is committed to ensuring that children of workers have access to the same educational opportunities as those available to other sections of the population.
The minister reaffirmed that the government will not allow children of workers to remain out of school and will utilize all available resources to achieve this objective.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain also said the Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) is being transformed into a modern, efficient and people-friendly institution to improve the delivery of education and other welfare services to workers’ families.
He described investment in the education of workers’ children as an investment in Pakistan’s future, adding that the government’s ongoing initiatives aim not only to improve the quality of education but also to bring a greater number of children into the formal education system.
The minister reiterated that the welfare of the working class and the education of their children remain among the government’s top priorities.
