PESHAWAR: Wheat prices have witnessed a sharp increase in Peshawar, with the price of a 50-kilogram bag reaching unprecedented levels, while flour rates have also climbed amid continued restrictions on wheat supply from Punjab.
According to market sources, the price of a 50-kilogram wheat bag has risen to around Rs 6,400, while flour prices have increased further, adding to concerns among consumers and traders.
Following the rise in wheat costs, prices of other wheat-based products have also surged. Fine flour is reportedly being sold at higher rates, while maida, suji, and starch prices have also recorded significant increases in local markets.
According to the traders, the ongoing ban on the transportation of wheat from Punjab to other regions has affected the supply of wheat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, making them fear a scarcity of flour in the entire province.
Some sources in the market said that some businessmen have been stockpiling large amounts of flour, expecting an increase in the price of flour in the future.
The increase in prices has made consumers worry about the rising cost of basic commodities that would make life more difficult for them financially.
