PESHAWAR: The judicial magistrate’s court and courts dealing with police stations are set to be shifted from the Judicial Complex Peshawar to the Federal Judicial Complex in Hayatabad, following the issuance of an official notification.
According to the notification issued by the District and Sessions Judge Peshawar, Judicial Magistrate Habib-ur-Rehman has been directed to immediately assume charge at the Federal Judicial Complex Hayatabad.
He will, however, perform duties at the old district courts building during Muharram, summer and winter vacations. Clerk Waqas Jan has also been transferred to Hayatabad and assigned duties as additional muharrir.
The Peshawar Bar Association has strongly opposed the decision, terming it against the interests of lawyers and litigants.
An emergency meeting chaired by Bar President Qaiser Zaman Advocate was held on Wednesday, where members demanded immediate withdrawal of the notification and restoration of the judicial magistrate’s court and the relevant police station courts at the Judicial Complex Peshawar.
The bar warned that it would resort to protest and strike if the notification was not withdrawn. According to the Bar Association president, shifting courts to different locations creates administrative complications and causes unnecessary difficulties for lawyers and litigants.
The association has also convened a general body meeting to discuss the matter and decide on its future course of action.
