QUETTA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday vowed that the fight against terrorism would continue until the complete elimination of militants from Balochistan, saying the country’s political and military leadership would jointly take decisive action against those involved in spreading unrest.

The prime minister made these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting of the National Action Plan Provincial Apex Committee in Quetta, where the province’s security situation and progress on the implementation of the National Action Plan were reviewed.

The meeting was attended by Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, federal ministers Ahad Khan Cheema and Attaullah Tarar, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, and heads of law enforcement agencies.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz said Balochistan had witnessed several serious incidents over the past four days, resulting in the deaths of police personnel, security forces members, and civilians.

He said security forces had responded effectively following the attacks and killed 54 militants during operations. The prime minister praised the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and said the entire nation stood with them.

He said that terrorist groups operating in Balochistan were receiving weapons and financial support from external elements. He further claimed that a neighbouring country was directly involved in recent incidents in the province.

PM Shehbaz reiterated that networks backed by foreign support would be dismantled and assured that efforts would continue to restore lasting peace and stability in Balochistan.
